The Chronicles of RiddickThe sequel to Pitch Black, in which the character Riddick (played by Vin Diesel) was introduced. It's set five years after the first movie. Riddick is running from planet to planet to escape from bounty hunters. After a narrow escape on Planet UV (Ultra Violet) he thinks it's time to visit New Mecca in the Helion System, to ask his old friend Imam if he knows who's willing to pay so much money for his body, dead or alive. It turns out that the universe is being conquered by a race of religious fanatics called the Necromongers, who think riddick is the last survivor of the so-called Furyans, the only creatures who are a match for Necromongers ... After the first movie had become a cult favorite, the sequel received a much higher budget. It was used to visualize impressive galactic panoramas and cityscapes, creating at least the suggestion of an overwhelming experience. This sequel is not a horror movie, but an action movie, flamboyant and very loud. There's at least one spellbinding sequence (the night and day sequence on planet Crematoria), but what seems to be missing, is a coherent story. The whole thing goes on and on, until it eventually just fizzles out. Diesel is still doing what he does best, playing Diesel. Alexa Davalos easily steals the movie away from him as Kyra, the girl from Pitch Black (then played by another actress) who has become a fierce warrior. I had no idea what Judy Dench was doing in the movie. She plays a so-called telepathic Quasi-Dead, so maybe it wasn't Dame Judy, but only her spirit.
